The fabric of the women's UV hoodies is a chlorine- and saltwater-resistant UV-Tech 168 made of 82% polyester and 18% elastane — light, breathable and quick-drying. Certified to UV STANDARD 801 by the Hohenstein Institute (NB 0555) and classified as EU PPE Category I under Regulation 2016/425. The protection comes from the densely constructed fabric alone and holds when dry, wet and across many washes.
The highlight is the multi-panel hood, ergonomically designed for women with extra room for long hair: it sits close to the head, stays put in wind and can be pulled up over mouth and chin — protecting exactly the spots sunscreen forgets first. Add raglan sleeves with thumbholes for seamless coverage of the backs of the hands, chafe-free flatlock seams and a concealed YKK zip pocket.
The fit is a regular cut that sits close to the body. Ideal for stand-up paddling, swimming and snorkelling, on the bike, on hikes, in the garden — or wherever a sun hat gets in the way or would blow off.
Machine washable at 30 °C on a gentle cycle; the UPF protection is permanent. Shipping from Germany with DHL within 1–3 working days, free returns within 30 days.
Frequently asked questions
Does the hood replace a sun hat?
For many activities, yes: the multi-panel hood sits close to the head, stays put in wind and protects head, ears and neck with the same tested UPF 80 as the shirt. Unlike a hat it cannot blow away, and the lower part can be pulled up over mouth and chin.
Why does the hood fit so close to the head?
That is deliberate: only a close-fitting hood protects reliably in wind and motion — a loose hood slips and lets sun reach ears and neck. After a short adjustment period, most wearers find the fit reassuringly secure.
What makes UPF 80 different from UPF 50+?
UPF 50+ is where the usual label scale ends, and it is measured on new, dry fabric. Our hoodies are tested to UV STANDARD 801 — wet and stretched, the way clothing is actually worn — with a measured UPF 80.
Are the hoodies tested for harmful substances?
Yes. These articles are certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 (certificate 26.HDE.40385, Hohenstein). Every component of an article certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 has been tested for substances that may be harmful to your health. You can verify the certificate's validity with the Label Check at oeko-tex.com.
