More about UV STANDARD 801The UVEEKAI men's collection is engineered for days when sunscreen alone doesn't last: on the water, in the mountains, on the bike or out in the sun all day. Every piece is certified to UV STANDARD 801 by the Hohenstein Institute (NB 0555) — the test standard that measures the fabric wet, stretched and after washing, while the usual UPF 50+ labelling only rates new, dry fabric. The measured value: UPF 80, through the fabric alone.
Choose from long-sleeve shirts with thumbholes and a raised back collar, hoodies with a close-fitting hood including mouth and chin protection, long pants in dense UV-Tech 231 fabric, and swim shorts for the water. All pieces are chlorine- and saltwater-resistant, with chafe-free flatlock seams and YKK zip pockets — a regular, close-to-body fit in XS to XL.

UV STANDARD 801 measures UV protection on wet, stretched and washed fabric too – under conditions like real wear, not only on new, dry fabric (Source: German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS)). The certified UPF 80 means: mathematically, only about one eightieth of the sunburn-effective UV radiation reaches the covered skin, in the water too.
A normal, lightweight cotton shirt usually has no stated UV protection factor, and you cannot tell how well it protects just by looking at it: how much UV radiation a garment blocks depends mainly on fabric type and density – the denser the weave, the better (Source: German Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS)). The usual standards EN 13758-1 and AS/NZS 4399 also measure only dry, unstretched fabric in new condition. UV STANDARD 801 measures wet and stretched as well – so our UPF 80 also applies in the water and in motion.
Wash at 30 °C on a gentle cycle; do not bleach, do not iron, do not dry-clean and do not tumble dry – air-drying is best. The UPF protection is built into the fabric construction itself and holds across many washes — that is part of the UV STANDARD 801 test.
