Our Story

Four generations.
One craft.

What began over 110 years ago in a Viennese tailoring workshop lives on today in a new form: clothing that protects people from UV radiation — manufactured to the strictest textile testing protocol in the world.

Where it all began

A Viennese tailoring workshop,
founded in 1910.

Our great-grandfather ran a tailoring workshop for menswear in Vienna. He made suits — piece by piece, by hand, for clients who expected garments that lasted.

The family lived in the workshop with its journeymen. Bolts of fabric leaned against the walls, dress forms stood in the window light, irons heated on the workbench. Every seam was checked, every cut placed by hand. Quality wasn’t an aspiration — it was the baseline.

The business lasted over five decades. It survived two world wars, the transformation of an entire industry, and the rise of mass-produced ready-to-wear. Around 1965, our great-grandfather closed the workshop. The tools were put away, the fabric bolts sold, the doors closed for good.

“Our great-grandfather sewed suits built to last. We sew clothing built to protect.”

Founder · UVEEKAI

What wasn’t put away was the feel for fabric. How a yarn behaves. What holds a seam. Why a well-constructed garment keeps its shape over years.

Four generations on, we pick up the thread. Not to copy the workshop. But to apply the same stance — uncompromising material quality, precise construction, clothing that lasts — to a task our great-grandfather did not yet know: certified protection from UV radiation.

Timeline

From bespoke suits to UV protection

A craft business, a long pause, a reinvention. The story of a family that has always been close to fabric and craft.

Around 1910 · Vienna

Founding of the Viennese tailoring workshop

Our great-grandfather opens a tailoring workshop for menswear in Vienna. Bespoke suits, fabrics worked by hand, quality as a given. Family and journeymen work under one roof.

Around 1965

The workshop closes

Our great-grandfather ends the business. Ready-to-wear is transforming the industry. The tools are put away — but the understanding of textiles stays in the family.

Two generations

The quiet interlude

For two generations the textile business lies dormant. Other professions, other paths. But the feel for fabric, for construction, for what makes a good garment — that does not simply give up.

The catalyst

A new task

When skin cancer plays a role in your family, your view of the sun changes. The question forms: can the old promise — clothing that lasts — be applied to a new task? Protection you can see, verify and wear.

Today · UVEEKAI

Four generations on

UVEEKAI combines our textile family tradition with the most advanced UV-protection technology. Certified to UV Standard 801 with UPF 80 — tested by the Hohenstein Institute, ethically produced under amfori BSCI.

Our Mission

Protection built into the fabric — not onto your skin

UV radiation is invisible, but real. Conventional sunscreen has its strengths — and its limits: it has to be applied, reapplied and dosed correctly. We believe there is another good and complementary path alongside it: certified UV protective clothing.

Three principles · One promise
Woven In
Fibre level

Structural protection

Our UV protection is woven into the fibre — it doesn’t wash out, doesn’t fade and doesn’t depend on how you apply it.

UV STANDARD 801
Hohenstein-tested

Highest certification

Tested by the Hohenstein Institute to UV Standard 801 — wet, stretched and under real-world conditions. Not just dry in a lab.

Daily Wear
Made for life

Function meets fashion

UV protection doesn’t have to look like UV protection. Our clothing is made for daily life — not the pharmacy.

Four chapters

What defines us

Four values that shaped the Viennese workshop — and that we now apply to a new craft.

01
Craft

Knowing how a fabric behaves.

In our great-grandfather’s workshop, every piece of fabric was checked by hand before it was used. Fiber by fiber, weave by weave. Whoever builds suits that last a lifetime learns what makes one fabric better than the next.

We carry that attitude forward. We don’t develop 80 styles that have to rush to market. We develop eight. Each one constructed, tested and refined until it stays.

Carefully constructed for best UV protection through the cut of the garment.
Flat seams, zippers, cuffs — all tested for durability.

Our Quality Promise

Every claim — verifiable.

We don’t inflate UPF numbers. We don’t use coatings that wash out. Our protection is structural, independently tested, and fully traceable — from yarn to seam.

Eight styles, perfected. Not eighty thrown at the market. Each garment is engineered to protect, perform and last — from the zipper to the flatlock seam.
